The Flea Remedy I Use

My Two Cents Worth…

People have asked what I use in the war on fleas.

Here’s the answer.

Note:

I am not a veterinarian therefore I am not recommending the product below.

I am simply a cat parent/guardian/caregiver telling you about a product I use.

In a geographical area where my cats have had to endure heavy flea populations in earlier years, the last three years have been very different thanks to the product referenced below. My cats have had absolutely zero fleas for the past three flea seasons.

The flea medicine I use, and the dosage, is recommended by certified homeopath and pet nutritionist Mary Marseglia. Read about Mary on my page ‘The Most Important Paper Ever Written on Cat (& Dog) Diet‘, and on another page on my website, ‘Cat Diet – Mary Marseglia‘.

On a very personal note: In recent years Mary has been, in every aspect of her life, stretched and stressed beyond measure. No human being should have to endure the heartbreaking situation Mary has endured. The result today is that, in her Facebook group, she seems abrupt and loud spoken. Fact is, she is fed-up, short, curt and brash with ignorant people. She literally screams in the faces of stupid people. Don’t let the public’s ill opinion of Mary fool you. She is one smart woman who knows what she’s talking about. You only have to read Mary’s educational papers to begin to understand and appreciate Mary Marseglia. Mary recommends Psorinum 30C as a flea preventative for cats and dogs.

(Click on the image to find it on Amazon. It’s available in other potencies, but you want 30C)

Start in early spring. These are very, very small, bb-sized pellets. When starting, give 4 pellets (1 dose) for 7 days straight.

Don’t spread giving the pellets throughout the day. Give all in the same time period. Read below to see how I give my cats the pellets.

Thereafter, give 1 dose twice a week throughout the rest of the warm, flea season until cold weather sets in. (For example, give on Monday then Thursday, or Tuesday then Friday, or Wednesday then Saturday.)
Here’s a glimpse at how I ‘pill’ my cats…

• I place a 2×3’ black plastic flat pan on the floor. Since the pellets are white, the black plastic background helps me see any pellets that might fall should I not place them properly or should my cat spit them out.

• I get the dosage (4 pellets per cat) and place them on the black pan. (Although you can touch the pellets, its best not to touch them too much. You could rub off the ‘medicine’.)

• I also get my cats’ treat package ready beside the plastic pan. (More on that below.)

• I kneel down on the floor on one end of the plastic pan, and shake the treat package to lure my first victim (lol). My cats usually come running when they hear me shake the treats.

• I place my cat in between my knees/legs with his or her tail towards me as I kneel. This gives me total control during the pilling process.

• While holding 2 pellets with my right hand (my dominant hand), I use my left hand to open my cat’s mouth.

• I toss in the 2 pellets, and reach for the other 2 pellets to repeat the process.

• I immediately place several treats on the plastic pan in front of my cat, and let my cat go for it. Eating the treats serves to clear any pellets that might not have been fully swallowed and which might have become lodged on the wall of the esophagus.

You can find videos on ‘pilling a cat’ on my ‘Medications, Vaccines, & CBD‘ page.

DEHUMIDIFY. Humidity is vital for flea survival. Flea eggs need humidity of 75 percent to hatch; flea larvae need 50 percent humidity to survive. For example, in places with adequate humidity, 20 percent of the eggs survive. In dry areas with low humidity, less than 5 percent of the eggs survive. Using a dehumidifier in your home will go a long way in stopping the flea cycle.
